Are you a part of the Phrozen Community? If so, are you familiar with all the resins in Phrozen's Resin Collection? What are your favorite Phrozen resins?
Today, we’ll take a look at the different kinds of resins often available in the market, which of those resins would best suit your 3D printing needs, and what Phrozen Resin to get!
Standard Resins
Suitable for a wide range of applications and compatible with most resin 3D printers, standard resins are often formulated with pretty good dimensional accuracy. It’s versatile and is often the first option for beginners starting their 3D printing journey, as they are typically more affordable and available in various colors. In contrast to specialty resins, which are formulated for specific applications or industries, standard resins tend to be created with a well-balanced property making them less brittle and easier to print with as they don’t require a lot of special tweaking.
Some examples of standard resins are Phrozen Aqua Resin and ABS-Like Resin. Phrozen Aqua Resin is developed to print quickly and produce high-quality and durable 3D-printed model parts that won’t break easily. There are three color options in this series which are blue, green, and clear. On the other hand, ABS-Like Resin is formulated to print sturdier 3D printed parts for general modeling and industrial applications. Phrozen offers two colors for ABS-Like Resin: Matte Gray and Creamy White.
Water-Washable Resins
Often a more popular choice for those without a designated 3D printing office or space, water-washable resin’s smell is less pungent and has an easier post-processing setup compared to other resins. As the name suggests, water-washable resin is water soluble and can easily be cleaned with water instead of IPA. Though, it’s important to note that being water-washable doesn’t mean you can throw the liquid cleaning waste directly into the drain, as the uncured resin is toxic to the environment.
Phrozen Water-Washable Resin is formulated to be slightly tougher than others in the market and great for printing miniatures, tabletop figures, and prototypes. There are two color options for Phrozen Water-Washable Resin: Rapid Black and Model Gray.
High-Resolution Resins
You might have heard about Phrozen Aqua 8K Resin. Being the first 8K resin on the market, Aqua 8K Resin was first explicitly developed to boost the level of detail that can be achieved with Sonic Mini 8K’s 22µm resolution. When used with 8K printers, Phrozen Aqua 8K Resin will significantly improve the visibility of detail on your models. This high-resolution resin is your best choice for printing out highly intricate miniature models and showing off even the slightest details in your creations. After the classic Gray color that was first introduced in 2021, this series has since welcomed additions of new exciting colors: Snow-Gray, Red-Clay, and Vanilla.
Suppose delicate models with tons of extra details are not something you are interested in. In that case, Phrozen Aqua 4K Resin could be what you want. Aqua 4K Resin is created to support Sonic Mini 4K and Sonic Mighty 4K printers to achieve their best potential. It’s also a great resin option if you are printing on a big-scale printer like the Sonic Mega 8K. Phrozen Aqua 4K Resin is available in two colors: Aqua-Gray and Aqua-Ivory.
Draft Resins
Draft resin is formulated to print quickly and is suitable for creating large models in a short amount of time. It is often used for early design iterations like rough or draft-quality prototypes. It is also great for big functional items that don’t require a high level of miniature detail, like cosplay props or landscaping projects. It’s often more affordable and has good printability, making it suitable for creating quick and inexpensive prototypes. It is typically easier to print and has good dimensional stability and low shrinkage, allowing the creation of accurate and consistent objects.
Phrozen Speed is Phrozen’s take on draft resin. Formulated to print up to eight times faster than other resins, Phrozen Speed can print out 24 cm models in just 6 hours, allowing for same-day modifications on industrial prototypes. Best used with Sonic Mega 8K, Phrozen Speed Resin is an excellent choice for printing life-size cosplay props, masks, prototypes, and huge landscaping projects such as tabletop wargaming terrains.
High-Temperature Resins
High-temperature resin is formulated to withstand high temperatures and prolonged exposure to heat. One of the main benefits of high-temperature resin is its ability to maintain structural integrity and mechanical properties of the finished prints even at high temperatures, making it an excellent choice for printing molds and inserts. Objects printed with high-temperature resin can be exposed to hot air, gas, and fluid without any deformity, making them suitable for functional prototyping. However, it may be more expensive and can be more challenging to print with.
Phrozen currently offers two high-temperature resins. TR300 Ultra-High Temp Resin is formulated to possess high mechanical strength, toughness, and extremely high thermal resistance with a heat deflection temperature of 190°C. It’s suitable for jewelry molding, industrial mock-ups, and even functional 3D-printed parts. If you don’t need such high heat deflection temperature, then you might opt for TR250LV High Temp Resin which offers the same quality at 80°C.
Tough Resins
One of the main advantages of tough resin is its ability to withstand high stress and rough handling. It is typically stronger and more rigid than standard resins, making them less prone to breakage under stress. With good dimensional stability and low shrinkage, it’s suitable for creating accurate and consistent objects like tools and mechanical parts.
Phrozen has a wide selection of tough resins, each with its own unique properties, such as rigidity, impact resistance, and strength. If you are looking to print accurate and rigid objects, then Onyx Rigid Pro410 and Protowhite Rigid might be something you’ll need. However, if you want extremely impact-resistant material, go with ONYX Impact Plus instead. For resin with high toughness properties, you may want to take a look at Rock-Black Stiff Resin or Nylon-Green Tough Resin.
Castable Resins
Formulated to be used in the casting process to create metal or alloy parts, castable resin is commonly used for printing jewelry, dental parts, and other small, intricate objects that require a high level of detail and precision. It’s supposed to burn cleanly with zero ash content so it will create a clean mold for the metal liquid to be poured into.
Phrozen offers three different types of castable resins for various purpose. Phrozen Castable Resin W20 Green is created with 20% wax content and is great for casting light to medium pieces with delicate features like milgrain, micro claw, and wired patterns plus engraved. On the other hand, Phrozen Castable Resin W40 Orange has 40% wax content and is formulated for casting medium to large pieces with smooth and crisp surface. For casting dental pieces, Phrozen Dental Green is your best choice. And lastly, Phrozen Jewelry Violet is great for casting any 3D printed jewelry with a high success rate.
Now that you’ve learned about all Phrozen’s resins, have you decided what are you going to get for your next print?
